Do you suffer from Friggatriskaidekaphobia?  A lot of people do without even realizing it. Friggatriskaidekaphobia is the fear of Friday the 13th, but fear not, there is a cure.

There are many theories to explain how Friday the 13th has come to be known as a bad luck day. The more common theory is that it is simply a combination of an old belief that Friday is an unlucky day (Jesus was crucified on a Friday) and that 13 is an unlucky number and stories abound of tales of bad luck on Friday the 13th.

Whatever your theory, if you believe that Friday the 13th is unlucky, then it probably will be. On the other hand, if you chose to believe that it isn’t, or that it is the luckiest day in your life, then there is also a good chance that will be true as well.

Such is the power of the mind, that what we chose to believe and to focus on, is what we create in life.

We have heard this from many of the great teachers throughout the ages.  Buddha said “what you are is a result of what you have thought”. James Allen’s famous quote “what the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve” has been used by coaches and elite athletes around the world and visualisation techniques have helped many sports people achieve their dreams.

And in recent years, science has discovered more and more evidence of why this is so. New technology enables scientists to view the brain in a way we have never seen it before. We are now discovering just how thought creates new neural networks in the brain and how the repeated use of the same thoughts strengthen these neural networks and produce chemicals in the body to which we become addicted.

We see the things that are in accordance with the thoughts we think, because thinking those thoughts over and over produce chemicals in our body that it has become addicted to. We therefore see evidence of our thought pattern around us.

For example, if you believe that the economy is really bad, you will see evidence of that around you and probably miss all the evidence that suggests otherwise. On the other hand, if you consciously focus on all the reasons the economy is improving, you will start to see evidence of that.

So, if you are used to thinking that Friday the 13th is an unlucky day, you are more likely to focus on all the reasons this will be the case. However, if you start thinking about all the reasons that Friday the 13th is the best day in your life and look for all the evidence of that, it just might be the day you changed your life for good.
